The Los Angeles Lakers were set to head into the 2022 NBA Draft without a single selection, but that has now changed.
The organization has completed a Draft Day trade with the Orlando Magic, acquiring the No. 35 overall pick in exchange for a future second-rounder and cash.
The Lakers had been working to move into the draft and now land with an early second-round pick tonight. https://t.co/17f312LhUL

The Lakers did have a first-round pick initially, but it was given to the Pelicans in the Anthony Davis trade a few years back and ultimately conveyed to NOLA at No. 8. It was reported recently that LA was keen on trading for a second-rounder, with discussions taking place with the Hawks and Pistons in the mid-40s. Needless to say, they got an even higher pick with this trade.

The Lakers are in need of a 3&D type player and/or more depth in their frontcourt. In ESPN's latest mock draft, they had Baylor forward Kendall Brown going off the board at No. 35. He's an imposing big and could be an option. There's also Duke guard Trevor Keels, who is projected to go 34th overall to the Thunder. He only shot 31% from downtown for the Blue Devil, but he has the potential to turn into a decent shooter and defender with good length at 6'4″.
We'll see if the Lakers can find a solid addition on Thursday evening. At least they were able to make a move for a pick in the first place.
