The Los Angeles Lakers are making final roster decisions, and Joel Berry II and Jeffrey Carroll were officially waived by the organization. This was not a surprising move. Both Berry and Carroll were undrafted free agents.

Keith Smith of RealGM adds that the Lakers expect to add both players to their G League team. Smith writes:

Berry played his college ball for North Carolina and Carroll played for Oklahoma State. Both made appearances in the preseason, but neither had much opportunity to make their mark on the game. It became clear that they would not be with the Lakers for long. Following this move, the Lakers' training camp roster is at 17 players.

The Lakers open up the season on Thursday, Oct. 18 in Portland. LeBron James and company will take on Damian Lillard, CJ McCollum, and the Trail Blazers. This will kick off a new era in Lakers lore and will mark the start to the LeBron James era.

Los Angeles is hoping to make the playoffs for the first time since 2013. Of course, for James and the revamped roster, playoffs are the expectation. But the Western Conference is loaded with playoff-caliber teams and there is little room for error for every team — not including the Golden State Warriors or Houston Rockets.
