The Los Angeles Lakers have started the 2025-26 season at 1-1, dropping their opening night game against the Golden State Warriors while bouncing back to grab a win against the Minnesota Timberwolves. During those two games, Lakers star Luka Doncic has been on a tear, but he appeared on the team’s injury report coming into their matchup with the Sacramento Kings on Sunday.
Luka Doncic is officially listed as questionable on the Lakers’ injury report for their game against the Kings. He is listed as dealing with a left finger sprain. The finger injury is something new, and Doncic did not mention it at all following the Lakers’ win against the Wolves. Doncic did seemingly suffer an apparent groin injury during the Warriors loss, but he brushed it off and was able to play against the Timberwolves.
With back-t0-back 40-point games to begin the season, Doncic set a Lakers franchise record in becoming the first player in team history to open up a season with two consecutive 40-point games. Against the Warriors, Doncic finished with 43 points, and then dropped 49 points a couple of days later against the Wolves.
Following the Wolves win, Lakers head coach JJ Redick joked about Doncic not being able to capitalize on Redick’s attempts to get him across the 50-point line.
“There was some discussion around whether or not. . .I’m trying to get the guy 50. I’d already given him three chances,” Redick joked. “I gave him fourth chance, he gets fouled. . .he was awesome. . .I said I’ve given you three chances, you passed up a layup, gave up a wide open three. . .just take the shot.”
But it hasn’t only been Doncic’s scoring that’s been huge for the Lakers. He’s also opened up the season with back-to-back double-doubles. Against the Warriors he grabbed 12 rebounds, and he had 11 rebounds against the Wolves. He’s also had a combined 17 assists through the first two games, finishing just shy of a triple-double in both.
