Magic Johnson has just taken to Twitter to show his appreciation to the entire Los Angeles Lakers organization  following his decision to step down as the team's president of basketball operations.

Johnson was very diplomatic in his statement and ended his heartfelt tweet by reassuring the entire world that despite how things turned out, he will forever remain faithful to the Purple and Gold:

Johnson's decision took everyone by surprise. It was no secret that the Lakers were going through tumultuous times, but nobody expected Magic to make the ultimate sacrifice by removing himself from the equation.

Then again, it's hard not to think that there's much more to this narrative than meets the eye. The timing of Johnson's resignation is a bit suspect, with his announcement coming just hours prior to the Lakers' final game of the regular season.

Sure, Tuesday night's matchup against the Portland Trail Blazers had no meaning for the team whatsoever, but why now? What urged Magic to jump ship at this point instead of just waiting for the regular season to officially come to an end?

There have been a fair amount of write-ups that have recently come out centering on this huge issue, and more details will come out in the coming days. Perhaps we will be given more clarity as to the reason behind Magic's decision sooner rather than later.
