ESPN analyst Richard Jefferson isn't one of the few expecting a partnership between LeBron James and Kyrie Irving taking place again, this time as members of the Los Angeles Lakers. Irving has been rumored to have interest in joining the Lakers as a free agent, but Jefferson, who played with both as a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers, doesn't think it'd be the best idea:
“I think their relationship right now has been as good as it has been since Kyrie left,” said Jefferson. “It's kind of like an ex-relationship. We're good right now, we're in a good place. Does that mean we want to get back together? No, and I think that's right where they are. They're in a good relationship right now, but them getting back together might not be the best idea.”

Questions about their fit have also been raised, considering it's hard to fathom Irving wanting to completely abandon the idea of running his own team just to chase glory along with his former partner.
Irving has wanted to be the leading man from the start of his career, a dream that was interrupted by James' unforeseen return to Cleveland in 2014 — one that eventually caused his exit in 2017.
No amount of struggle is likely to make Irving regret leaving the shadow of LeBron James, even less to gamble his future with a dysfunctional front office in charge of putting a roster around them.
Jefferson keeps in touch with both players to this day, and if he thinks James and Irving are just two exes being cordial with each other, that's likely the way it should stay.
