LeBron James has been part of a lot of headlines lately because of the highly publicized struggles of the Cleveland Cavaliers. Before they won back-to-back games, the Northeast Ohio team dropped 10 of their previous 14 games, raising a lot of questions on what’s the real cause of it. It has also overshadowed the free agency rumors about him, especially the talks about his potential move to the Los Angeles Lakers.

However, Colin Cowherd just dropped a bomb recently that will make it a much talked topic once again.

During the recent episode of his show, The Herd on Fox Sports Radio, the veteran sports media personality said that according to his very reliable source, which he kept unnamed, The King joining the Lakers is “very much in play.” He then cited that his entire team of marketers, lawyers and business partners are all on their toes and waiting for his final decision.

It’s pure speculation for now, but just like how the saying goes, when there’s smoke, there’s fire. It can be recalled that rumors have already emerged for some of the biggest free agents in the past about where they could sign in the summer, and some of them came into fruition. Take for example Kevin Durant in the 2016 offseason, as there was growing belief prior to the start of free agency that the Golden State Warriors will be one of the strongest contenders to sign him despite already having three stars in their lineup. That indeed happened and he still he decided to take his talents to Oakland and won his first title last season.

James joining the Lakers may not guarantee that they will win a championship next year, but it will definitely make them instant contenders in the tough Western Conference. The former four-time MVP will also give a lot of lessons to their young core which could help them as they continue their NBA careers, while James can grow his brand further in Los Angeles. It will definitely be a win-win situation for him and the franchise, as both will benefit from the possible partnership, but there’s still a long way to go before the summer, and it’s still anyone’s guess at this point where James will play next.
