There is no timetable for Dallas Mavericks rookie point guard Dennis Smith Jr. to return from the left hip strain which has kept him out for the team’s last two games.

Per Mavs.com's Earl K. Sneed:

Rick Carlisle says there’s no timetable for Dennis Smith Jr. (left hip strain) to return: “Him getting 100 percent healthy is our No. 1 priority.” Smith will meet with the team physician when the @dallasmavs return home.

Smith, the No. 9 pick in this year’s draft, is averaging 14.4 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game in 28.1 minutes through 23 games for the Mavs this season.

The Mavs lost to the Milwaukee Bucks and the Minnesota Timberwolves, the two games on their recent three-game road trip they played without Smith. They are now down to 7-20 on the season, the worst record in the Western Conference.

With the Mavs going nowhere this season, it’s only smart for them to take extra precaution on their star youngster and ensure his injury is fully healed before he returns to action.

While Smith is out, look for Yogi Ferrell to continue deputizing at the starting point guard spot, with veteran guards Devin Harris and J.J. Barea also taking up more significant roles off the bench.
