Following Tuesday night's 124-97 loss to the Phoenix Suns, Dennis Smith Jr. decided to send out a quick thank you message to the Dallas Mavericks and their fans for supporting him through his rookie season.

“Thank God for the blessings,” Smith Jr. wrote in his tweet. “Thank you @dallasmavs for opportunity.”

Smith was held out of Tuesday's game due to left knee soreness. However, the crafty ball-handler played very well in Sunday's 109-97 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers, scoring 20 points, 11 assists, three steals, and two blocks in 40 minutes of action.

Smith has been a beacon of light in Dallas' (mostly) dim season. In his 69 appearances with the Mavs, the former North Carolina State standout has racked up averages of 15.2 points on 39.5 percent shooting from the field (31.3 percent from beyond the arc), 5.2 assists, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.0 steal in 29.7 minutes per game. Those are solid stats for a rookie, to be sure. But he admits there is still room for improvement in his game.

“I feel like I've made strides, but there's always room for improvement,” Smith told SportsDay in March. “It's a process and I'm trusting it. I'm going to keep doing my work. The progress is going to show.”

If you're not familiar with Smith's game, just have a go at some of his highlights from this season. You'll quickly realize that his future in the NBA is bright.
