Pau Gasol obviously didn’t get the memo that says Dallas Mavericks rookie guard Dennis Smith Jr. can sky.

During tonight’s matchup between the San Antonio Spurs and the Mavs, Gasol got a firsthand look at DSJ’s explosiveness, as the first-year guard blew past by him before taking off for a powerful slam.

We all knew how this was going to end right when we saw the flat-footed Pau Gasol left guarding Dennis Smith Jr. just behind the 3-point arc. The Mavs rookie knew he could take Gasol off the dribble and all he was waiting before attacking the rim was for the Spurs’ secondary defense to spread out a little bit. There’s no way Pau Gasol was going to stop that without sticking out his arm and clotheslining Smith.

Mavs fans are just in the first season of the Dennis Smith Jr. experience and if this year is any indication, they’re in for a steady diet of more DSJ slams in years to come.
