The Memphis Grizzlies have reportedly been quietly gauging the Marc Gasol trade market with the February trade deadline approaching, according to Marc Stein of the New York Times.

Marc Gasol has a player option worth $25,595,700 for next season. If he declines it, the three-time All-Star would become an unrestricted free agent.

Gasol hasn't requested a trade from the Grizzlies, but with Memphis currently in the 14th spot in the Western Conference standings, a trade might be beneficial for both parties so Gasol can play for a contender and the Grizzlies can jumpstart their rebuild.

My sense is that the Grizzlies, since that Jan. 14 tweet, have indeed been quietly gauging the Gasol landscape and assessing their options — even though their preference surely remains not trading him.

In 46 games for the Grizzlies this season, Gasol is averaging 15.3 points, 8.5 rebounds and 4.7 assists. The former Defensive Player of the Year is shooting 43.4 percent from the field, 35.3 percent from beyond the arc and 75.9 percent from the free-throw line.

Memphis enters Tuesday with a record of 19-28. Unless they go on some magical run, the Grizzlies are going to miss the playoffs for the second consecutive season.

Gasol has spent his entire NBA career with Memphis.
