The first annual NBA Awards Show on Monday night was filled with a lot of memorable moments and is considered a big success. Some of the best players in the league were awarded for the stellar season they had this year, while some were honored for their contributions to the league. However, some players were left disappointed with the nominees, as some thought there were more deserving players for specific awards, including themselves.

That was exactly the case for the Game-Winner of the Year plum, as Miami Heat guard Dion Waiters took to his Twitter account to express his sentiments. He replied to a fan questioning why he was not nominated for it, and he cited politics as the possible reason for his omission.

Waiters knocked down a game-winning 3-pointer against the Golden State Warriors to the delight of the sold-out American Airlines Arena back in January. It was part of the team’s improbable run in the second half of the season, in which it won 30 of its last 41 games and only missed out on the playoffs due to a tiebreaker.

Waiters may have been snubbed from the award, but it can turn out to be a blessing in disguise for the Heat should they be able to re-sign him this summer. It could light a fire in him to play even better next season, to prove that the cold-blooded shot he made was not a fluke and that he can be consistent in leading the Heat to more victories in the future.
