Miami Heat point guard Goran Dragic was almost traded to the Dallas Mavericks this summer before the Mavs decided not to acquire the lefty.

The Mavs didn’t want to add Dragic’s $19.2 million contract to their salary cap. The Heat were in the process of acquiring Jimmy Butler from the Philadelphia 76ers in a sign-and-trade deal. In the end, Dragic stayed in South Beach, but it was still a crazy situation for the veteran.

“If I'm honest, I did not hear it,” Dragic said, via Ira Winderman of the Sun-Sentinel. “I heard it after, a little bit. Because when that was going on, I was asleep. I was sleeping. I didn't know what was going on.

“Of course, the next day, in the morning, I received a lot of texts. It was a little bit crazy, because at first you didn’t know if the deal went through or not. So a lot of my friends called me and were asking me. But I did not have a clue, because I just woke up. I didn't speak with anybody, not with my agent, not with the Heat, so I just let it go.

Goran Dragic reportedly was happy he didn't get traded by the Heat, who are expected to compete for a playoff spot next season with Butler in the fold.

Dragic averaged 13.7 points, 3.1 rebounds and 4.8 assists last season while shooting 41.3 percent from the field, 34.8 percent from beyond the arc and 78.2 percent from the free-throw line. He recorded four double-doubles and one triple-double.

The Heat were 16-20 when Dragic was in the lineup. He only played in 36 games of a knee procedure he had in December. In a contract year, you can expect Dragic to play at a high level next season for the Heat.
