After leading Slovenia to its first-ever Eurobasket gold medal, Goran Dragic has made good on his plans to retire from the Slovenian national team at the end of EuroBasket, per the Associated Press’ report which was picked up by ESPN.
“Dragic says on Tuesday, ‘I achieved what I wanted, the gold medal, and this is the right time to bid farewell.’”
Dragic had announced prior to the start of the tournament that he would retire from international play.

The 31-year-old Miami Heat guard had a dream end to his international career. He scored 35 points to lead Slovenia to a 93-85 win in the final against Serbia. He averaged 22.6 points in the tournament and was named the tournament’s MVP.
Apart from leading Slovenia to its first major international championship, Dragic also goes out as one of his country's all-time leaders in total points and appearances.
Despite Dragic’s retirement, Slovenia should be in good hands with soon-to-be NBA star Luka Doncic. The 18-year-old has drawn praise from Dragic and other teammates over the course of EuroBasket, and is set to succeed Dragic as the European champions' new basketball superstar.
