Miami Heat center Bam Adebayo knows exactly why small forward Jimmy Butler has fit in so well with the team in his first season down in beautiful South Beach.
Adebayo, who made his first All-Star team this season with Butler, says Jimmy holds people to a higher standard than they hold themselves:
“He's just holding people to a higher standard than they're holding themselves,” Bam Adebayo said on IG live with Heat television host Jason Jackson, via Ira Winderman of the Sun Sentinel.
“And in this organization, you want that. I feel like we can make a run and make noise and do a lot of things that people said we couldn't.”
Butler, Adebayo and the Heat were in fourth place in the Eastern Conference standings before the 2019-20 season was suspended due to COVID-19. Miami had a stellar record of 41-24.
Adebayo was averaging 16.2 points, 10.5 rebounds and 5.1 assists for the Heat prior to play getting suspended. Butler, meanwhile, was putting up 20.2 points, 6.6 rebounds and 6.1 assists.
In the post-Dwyane Wade era, the Heat have two All-Stars in Bam and Jimmy who are eager to lead Miami back to the promised land. Heat president Pat Riley will most likely try and acquire a third star to pair next to Butler and Adebayo.
Over the past few years, the Heat have been linked to Washington Wizards All-Star shooting guard Bradley Beal and Milwaukee Bucks superstar swingman Giannis Antetokounmpo.
