Jimmy Butler has been one of the most polarizing players in the NBA today. After pushing and yelling his way out of the Chicago Bulls, Minnesota Timberwolves and Philadelphia 76ers, he seems to have found the perfect home for himself in South Beach with the Miami Heat.
Butler isn’t the best scorer in the league, best passer or even the best defender. However, on the Locked On Heat Podcast, host David Ramil shared the one elite skill Butler has that has vaulted Miami into the Eastern Conference Finals and a Game 1 win over the Celtics.

David Ramil: One of the things that I keep pointing out about Jimmy is that his ability to gauge and get a feel for what's necessary in the game, to me, has been second to none other than LeBron James.
He is good enough, I think in almost every aspect of the game where he can kind of afford to take a step back and just kind of assess things in his own unique fashion and then turn it on when necessary. He’s also been very deferential in a good way to his teammates, not in other other players when they defer to your teammates. It's usually because you're a little passive or because they don't feel comfortable stepping up in the moment, [but] that's obviously not who Jimmy is. He just wants to get other players going and he does a phenomenal job of it — has done so all season. Even in his postgame press conference, [he] kept talking up how good Bam has been, how great Tyler's been, how great Jae and Goran particularly have been.
He’s been a really great player to watch up close, and he continues to shine even if he's not putting up huge numbers and even tonight, he’s still doing all the little things: finished 7-of-14, really effective 50 percent from the floor and 2-of-3 from 3-point range, as well as five rebounds, five assists, two steals. [He] just continues to have a great overall game, even if it's not a gaudy level of production.
