The Miami Heat are on the verge of being bounced in the first round of the playoffs, and face an offseason full of tough decisions. That includes Kendrick Nunn's future in South Beach.
Nunn will be a restricted free agent this season, meaning the Heat can match all offer sheets to keep him in Miami. How high are the Heat willing to go?
John Hollinger of The Athletic reported Nunn could get offers “in the $15 million a year range” this offseason. Hollinger noted it's possible Duncan Robinson could attain a similar value from interested teams.
That dollar figure could pose challenges for Miami. Although the Heat have just a handful of players under contract through next season, they also need to decide how best to construct the roster for the future.
Will Nunn be part of that future? The Chicago native has had a pretty wild trajectory since joining the Heat last season.
Article Continues BelowNunn averaged 15.3 points, 3.3 assists and 2.7 rebounds for the Heat during the 2019-20 campaign, but he barely saw any playoff action before getting more run in the NBA Finals.
However, Nunn started the majority of games for the Heat this season, averaging 14.6 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.6 assists during the regular season and shooting over 38 percent from beyond the arc. He has given Miami a vital scoring presence and someone who can create off the bounce.
Now, whether the Heat decide Nunn is worth $15 million per year remains to be seen. Maybe Miami would prefer to manifest additional cap space and make a run at a superstar like Kawhi Leonard.
Regardless, the 25-year-old is in a decent position to cash out and force Miami into a corner.
