Milwaukee Bucks star and two-time reigning NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo has joined the growing list of MVP candidates dealing with physical setbacks.

The Bucks have listed Antetokounmpo as out for Monday night's showdown with the Indiana Pacers, per Marc Stein of the New York Times. Antetokounmpo is reportedly ailing from a left knee sprain.

A number of prospective candidates for league MVP have been hit by the injury bug as of late.

Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid remains sidelined with a knee injury. Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James was a top-betting favorite to win the award before suffering a high-ankle sprain that will reportedly keep him out several weeks.

Meanwhile, Portland Trail Blazers point guard Damian Lillard aggravated a knee issue Sunday night against the Dallas Mavericks, and Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry has been hampered by a tailbone injury that has left him day-to-day.

It remains to be seen just how long Antetokounmpo will be forced to take a seat on the Bucks' sidelines.

The 26-year-old has played a major role in the team's six-game winning streak, notching three consecutive triple-doubles out of the All-Star break. Antetokounmpo is averaging 29.0 points, 11.7 rebounds and 6.4 assists through 40 games. He has the Bucks within striking distance of the top-seeded Sixers, and Milwaukee's chance at another No. 1 seed would likely bolster Giannis' chances.

However, the “Greek Freak” is among the star players battling through injury. Might this open the door for the likes of Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic or Dallas Mavericks star guard Luka Doncic?

The MVP race could get very complicated.
