O.J. Mayo looks like he is beginning to pave the way for his NBA comeback. According to a report from Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports, Mayo has inked a deal with a Puerto Rico-based ballclub.

Sources: Former No. 3 overall pick O.J. Mayo has signed a contract with San German in Puerto Rico. Mayo, 30, will report to Puerto Rico this month and is eligible to sign in NBA this summer from his suspension.

It’s been a while since O.J. Mayo was last seen on an NBA court. In 2016, Mayo was suspended by the NBA for two years after it was discovered that he violated the league’s anti-drug program. That suspension is about to get lifted this year, meaning he would be eligible for an NBA return in the 2018-19 campaign.

Mayo last saw action in the NBA with the Milwaukee Bucks, playing 41 games (24 starts) in the 2015-16 season in which the shooting guard averaged a career low of 7.8 points on 37.1 percent shooting from the field.

Apart from his temporary ban, Mayo is known to NBA fans as a skilled scorer with a potent game around the perimeter. He is a career 37.3 percent shooter from behind the arc, and even once shot 40.7 percent from deep during the 2012-13 season when he was still the Dallas Mavericks.

The now 30-year-old guard was the third overall selection in the 2008 NBA Draft, taken just after the Chicago Bulls and the Miami Heat drafted Derrick Rose and Michael Beasley, respectively. He spent his first four seasons with the Grizzlies before hooking up with Dallas and Milwaukee for his other four seasons in the league.
