Jacqueline passed away due to complications from COVID-19:
โThe Towns family is heartbroken by the untimely passing of Jacqueline Towns due to complications as a result of COVID-19,โ a Towns family spokesperson said in a statement, via the Timberwolves' Twitter account. โJackie, as she was affectionately known among family and friends, had been battling the virus for more than a month when she succumbed on April 13th. Jackie was many thing to many people โ a wife, mother, daughter, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. The matriarch of the Towns family, she was an incredible source of strength; a fiery caring, and extremely loving person, who touched everyone she met. Her passion was palpable and her energy will never be replaced.โ
The 2019-20 NBA campaign was suspended after Utah Jazz big man Rudy Gobert tested positive for the coronavirus last month. At the moment, there is no timetable for the league's return.
Basketball is just one of many sports that has been affected by the current climate. The NHL had to suspend its season, as well, and the MLB pushed the start of its 2020 campaign back.
