Minnesota Timberwolves guard Derrick Rose has had a career with a multitude of highs and lows, filled with deep valleys and high peaks.

Most recently, Rose hit one of those peaks when he dropped 50 points against the Utah Jazz on Wednesday night. The game reminded everyone watching of Rose's heart and the prodigious amount of talent the youngest ever MVP of the league still possesses.

But after his historic night, Rose reminisced about his less fortunate times, specifically the time he spent with the Cleveland Cavaliers last season.

Rose was injured early in the season and seriously considered stepping away from the game instead of rehabbing from yet another injury.

In an interview with Nick Friedell of ESPN, Derrick Rose said:

“I thought my career was over. I wasn't able to run for a month and a half. I didn't know what was going on with my ankle. And I was just trying to figure things out. Around that time I found me and my guy Art in a gym at 3 or 4 o'clock in the morning shooting shots. … I found myself always like around basketball in the gym because it was my safe haven. So that's like, being in Cleveland, that's when I realized that I still had joy for the game and the game was still somewhere in me.”

Even during his darkest moments, Rose knew that basketball was something he still loved and couldn't step away from yet.

Because of this dedication, Derrick Rose was able to reinvent himself and is still a solid player in the league, even after facing multiple heartbreaking injuries that might have broken somebody else.
