When Flip Saunders passed away in 2015, the people of Minnesota and the basketball community mourned as one.

Saunders had a new dream for the Timberwolves when he came back to the be the team GM, and he was the one who traded Kevin Love for Andrew Wiggins and drafted Tyus Jones and Karl Anthony-Towns. He never got to see his vision fulfilled though when his life was cut short.

His vision finally seems to be paying off though with the Timberwolves well on their way to the playoffs, the Timberwolves decided to hold Flip Saunders night on Thursday.

All fans in attendance got a coin in Flip's honor, and there was a pregame ceremony with many former players coming back to celebrate the occasion.

At the end of the ceremony, a banner was raised with the simple phrase “Flip” written on it. That banner will forever hang in the rafters of the Target Center.

During the ceremony, Glen Taylor had a lot of important messages about what Flip meant to the NBA community, but to the Timberwolves, and he made it clear that flip is always an important part of the future.

“It's so important, as we put this banner up tonight that we keep that memory of not only what Flip has done in the past, but that he is a part of the future.”

There is no doubt his memory, and kindness will live on not only in the future of the Timberwolves, and the vision he created, but also all across the NBA.
