The Minnesota Timberwolves have Ricky Rubio, an the established point guard, drafted the best point guard prospect from the 2016 NBA Draft in Kris Dunn, and have a staple of strong young guards Andrew Wiggins, Tyus Jones, and Zach LaVine. Despite all those players, the team seems be looking at other guards as well.

Marc Stein of ESPN tweeted about two more players that were signed to the Timberwolves' backcourt on Wednesday:

Toure' Murry and John Lucas III will get their chance to prove themselves worthy in Minnesota's training camp. In order to do that, they have to put up performances which excel beyond their previous NBA season, which had forced them out of the NBA to the D-League.

Murry's two seasons in the NBA were far below average. He averaged just seven minutes and 2.6 points. Hurry did manage to pick that up in the D-League, playing 115 games while averaging 10.5 points, 3.9 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game.

On the other hand, Lucas has spent most of his 11-year professional career moving from team to team. He has played in the NBA, D-League, Europe and China. The 33 year old hasn't seemed to find his basketball home yet and hopes that Minnesota will finally be just that. During his 7 years in the NBA, Lucas averaged 12.3 minutes with 4.8 points and 1.5 assists per game. In the D-League he played in 74 games, producing 16.6 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game.

The competition is fierce at the point guard position in Minnesota. If these two players want to even be considered as possible season signings they need to have dominant performances in training camp.
