For the first time since his arrest in mid-January for driving under the influence, former Chicago Bulls and Detroit Pistons star forward Dennis Rodman opened up publicly to TMZ about his path towards sobriety.

“We've got to go through changes and this right here was an eye-opener,” Rodman told a TMZ reporter on Monday morning. “I've been through it before, but it's one day at a time. It's a struggle so I'm going to try to succeed it and hope I can beat it.”

Rodman, who won five NBA championship titles and led the league in rebounding for seven straight seasons in the 90's, says he is feeling better and taking things one day at a time.

“I feel great, man,” Rodman said. “It’s kinda weird not to have a cocktail on a beautiful day in California but like I said, it’s just one day at a time.”

Back on Feb. 17, the outspoken Hall of Famer revealed in a video that he was over 30 days sober and is still going strong despite the difficulty of staying off alcohol for good.

“Well, it's pretty much the same thing for me,” Rodman said. “I guess with people that are in the entertainment field, you really have to keep your same regimen but you have to cut out certain things that's really going to motivate you to go drink. It's the second day I've been to an AA meeting and so far, so good and hopefully I continue.”

In 14 NBA seasons, the defensive mastermind Rodman averaged a whopping 13.1 rebounds, 7.3 points and 1.3 assists per game in roughly 31.7 minutes of action per contest.
