As all 30 teams in the NBA play the last six weeks of the season, there is something very interesting developing in the bottom for the standings for both conferences.
Two of those teams — the Chicago Bulls and Brooklyn Nets — will play tonight. They are considered two of several teams that are tanking in order to get a top lottery pick. Combined, those two teams have lost 11 straight games coming into tonight's game.
But that's not all. In addition to the Bulls and Nets, there are six other teams at the bottom of the standings that have lost a significant amount of games, per K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune.
Bulls (3 straight Ls) vs. Nets (8 straight Ls). Bulls 8th-worst record. Nets 7th-worst record. The NBA’s 8 worst teams have lost combined 44 straight games entering action tonight.

In the Western Conference, the Phoenix Suns and Memphis Grizzlies have each lost nine games in a row. In the Eastern Conference, the Orlando Magic have lost five straight.
None of those teams nor the others have very much incentive to win games other than the Nets, who do not own their own pick any longer. In fact, losing more games is helping the Cleveland Cavaliers, who have the Nets' pick as a result of a trade from a few years ago. They kept the pick at the trade deadline despite many in the NBA opining that they should trade it away for a star player.
Word on the street is this upcoming draft may have five or six players that can be considered franchise-changing. So clearly, these eight teams want to jockey for position to get one of them.
But there's eight teams trying for those spots, and theoretically only five or six available. But until then, let the tank games begin.
