All-Star forward Carmelo Anthony is back in the NBA, with the Portland Trail Blazers signing the veteran on Thursday, much to the delight of friends Dwyane Wade and LeBron James.

The 35-year-old former Houston Rocket is joining the team on its testy road trip, but Anthony won't be available until Portland's Tuesday matchup against the New Orleans Pelicans, per ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

With the Blazers embarking on a six-game road trip — starting with a game with the San Antonio Spurs on Friday night — they'll need all the reinforcements they can get, especially with an injury spell plaguing the team.

Anthony signed a non-guaranteed deal with the team after months of semi-retirement.

According to Woj, Anthony's return to the NBA and presence in Portland's locker room can be a “jolt.”

The Blazers are hopeful that Anthony can bring an immediate presence to a locker room that needs a jolt. Anthony, a 10-time All-Star and future Hall of Famer, hasn't played a game since a 10-game run with the Rockets that ended early in the 2018-2019 season.

After six and half seasons with the New York Knicks, Anthony was traded to the Oklahoma Thunder prior to the 2017-18 NBA season. Following an unsuccessful fit with the franchise, Melo signed with the Rockets one season later but was cut just a handful of games into his journey.

Melo has attempted an NBA comeback  numerous times, but teams did not show interest in his talents. The former third overall pick out of Syracuse practiced with the Brooklyn Nets and Knicks in preseason, but nothing came about.

Finally Anthony is back in the NBA, and the Blazers couldn't have him at a more desperate time at 4-8.
