While there is some debate to be had over who is the greatest big man of all time in the history of the NBA, it is pure fact that Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is in that conversation. A resume that reads six-time NBA champion, six-time league MVP, all-time leading scorer, and inventor of the most unstoppable move in league history would give just about anyone a lock on being recognized as one of the best centers the league has ever seen.

According to Abdul-Jabbar, he has his eye on a young center in the league today who he believes could be similarly talented to how he was in his former years. According to Alex Kennedy of HoopsHype, Kareem’s favorite player in the league to watch right now is Anthony Davis.

The iconic center has much reason to appreciate Davis. At just 25 years-old, he is one of the best players in the league and possible the best big man today. Even amid a ton of turbulence this season, he is still averaging 26.8 points, 12.3 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 2.5 blocks, and 1.6 steals. In just seven seasons, he has already led the league in blocks three times, as well.

As for Kareem, the numbers are in his favor if we are comparing. His best season statistically saw him average 34.8 points, and 16.6 rebounds- 6.7 points and 4.3 rebounds better than Davis’ career bests. The league didn’t start recording blocks until the 1977-78 season, but when they did, it took Kareem eight seasons before averaging less than 3.0 per game and 11 seasons before he would average less than 2.0.

Davis is easily one of the most skilled players in the modern NBA and the way he plays fits perfectly considering how the league has evolved. If the bar is set at Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, though, then he still has quite a ways to go.
