Former NBA player Shaquille O'Neal is widely recognized as the most dominant big man in the history of the league. He has won multiple championships to go along with his individual awards, and he's recently been inducted into the hall of fame.

But despite his impressive resume, Shaq told Yahoo Sports' Sarah Smith that he has earned more money through his business ventures compared to what he earned during his 19-year NBA career.

The retired basketball star has scored big in business since retiring. O’Neal said he’s made more money through his investments than he did playing basketball.

Shaq has built an impressive business empire of his own, ranging from Papa John’s (PZZA), Reebok and Carnival Cruise Line (CCL), among others.

According to Forbes and HoopsHype.com, O'Neal earned roughly $292 million as a player. This doesn't include endorsements and other off-court ventures like his TV and movie appearances. So the fact that he's being paid after retiring from the NBA is very impressive.

Through the years, stories of former NBA players going bankrupt after retiring from the league have constantly reminded people that athletes who don't handle their finances well end up losing everything in a blink of an eye.

Shaquille O'Neal isn't one of them.
