Team USA came into the Rio Olympics basketball tournament as the heavy favorites to win it all, but have struggled as of late.
Team USA certainly has the most talented team but their chemistry has been put to the test. Despite their recent struggles, Team USA's odds at winning the gold medal have still remained high.
According to Bovada, Team USA still remains the overwhelming favorites to win the gold medal, although they have appeared to be unfocused at times and narrowly escaped winning the last two games.
Bovada lists the odds for the projected top eight teams below:
- USA 1/20
- Spain 14/1
- Australia 20/1
- Lithuania 22/1
- Serbia 22/1
- France 28/1
- Croatia 33/1
- Argentina 40/1
As a USA fan that is somewhat of a relief, and as a gambler, it looks like an opportunity to risk winning more money before the tournament ends.
Spain, France, Australia, and Lithuania are all dangerous teams having a number of NBA players on their rosters and could easily pull off the one upset game needed to advance past Team USA.
Although that scenario is unlikely according to the odds, anything can happen.
It takes more than just having the best talent to win and Team USA has the task of finishing strong and adding to their win streak, even if they don't dominate like previous Dream Teams.
