New Orleans Pelicans star big man Anthony Davis will not play against the Houston Rockets on Tuesday night, according to Jonathan Feigen of The Houston Chronicle.

This is not because Davis asked the Pelicans for a trade, but because he is still sidelined with a finger injury that will keep him out for the next couple of weeks.

Davis requested a trade from New Orleans on Monday, just a week-and-a-half before the Feb. 7 trade deadline.

Of course, the Pelicans are under no obligation to move him before then, as he can't opt out of his contact until next summer, meaning New Orleans has team control over Davis through 2020.

It also seems highly doubtful that the Pelicans will move Davis within the next 10 days, as they will likely want to take their time gauging offers from other clubs before pulling the trigger on a deal.

Davis has been with New Orleans' organization since being drafted out of Kentucky in 2012 when the Pelicans were still the Hornets. However, in spite of Davis' massive talent, things have not quite worked out in the Big Easy.

Over his first six years with the franchise, the Pelicans have made the playoffs just twice, first appearing in 2015 before being swept by the Golden State Warriors in the first round. They then made the postseason again last year, sweeping the Portland Trail Blazers in the first round before losing to the Warriors in the conference semifinals.

This season, New Orleans is clearly not a playoff team, as it currently owns a record of 22-28 and is not in the Western Conference playoff picture.
