Projected first overall pick Zion Williamson will officially become an NBA player on Thursday night. But although the season is still four months away, a lot of people are already wondering if he will join next year's dunk contest.
Williamson has already said no unless someone can change his mind, saying he's “not much of a dunk contest person.” Utah Jazz guard Donovan Mitchell took to Twitter to call out the collegiate sensation, telling him to stop lying:
Bruh stop lying @Zionwilliamson 🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️ https://t.co/qAyrzPMA4c

The dunk contest, one of the most anticipated events during All-Star Weekend, has been underwhelming over the past couple of years. Even when Mitchell participated and was hailed as the best dunker last season, it wasn't really something that had a lot of people on the edge of their seats.
Article Continues BelowThe last dunk contest that received tons of praise from fans was back in 2016, when Orlando Magic forward Aaron Gordon and then-Minnesota Timberwolves guard Zach LaVine competed in the finals. It immediately became one of the best dunk contests of all time in a lot of people's eyes.
But maybe Williamson is someone who can put life back in the event. After all, his dunks in college were always electrifying. Despite being listed at 6-foot-7 and 285 pounds, Zion has the athleticism and leaping ability like that of Vince Carter and LeBron James.
Zion Williamson hasn't played in the NBA yet, but he's expected to have a very long career. If not next season, perhaps he will reconsider his dunk contest decision in the future.
