The Zion Williamson saga this season has been a painful one for the New Orleans Pelicans and their fans. It all started when David Griffin announced at Media Day that the New Orleans Pelicans star had undergone offseason foot surgery. While Griffin said the expectation was that Williamson would be back for the start of the regular season, he's still not back and won't be back for at least another month or so, if that.

Throughout this time, there have been concerns about Zion's weight. And now these latest rumblings from Jake Madison of the Locked On Pelicans pod are also troubling (h/t to PBT's Dan Feldman):

“He has fallen asleep in film study.”

“Skipping rehab.”

“He has skipped things he needs to be at the team for that comes to trying to get him back out on the court.”

Yikes.

While these are obviously unconfirmed reports, the fact that they're out there don't reflect all that well on Zion. The Pelicans star has talked about how he's committed to New Orleans, but between this stuff, the weight concerns and just the inability to get on the court, this is turning into a nightmare scenario for a franchise that has so much riding on him. Furthermore, these kinds of rumors getting out probably won't make the Williamson camp happy.

Not great!

Williamson just underwent a special procedure to help his foot heal. He's out for at least another 4-6 weeks, but it will likely be longer than that given he'll have to get his conditioning back. The Pelicans are still holding out hope that Zion will play this season, but it would be hard to blame anybody who's skeptical of that.
