Fans of the New Orleans Pelicans woke up on Wednesday with the good news that star forward Zion Williamson is progressing well with his foot injury.
According to reports, Zion has shown signs of “improved bone healing,” a significant update considering all the setbacks he has suffered over the past months. The former no. 1 overall pick hasn't really panned out yet for the young Pelicans due to his laundry list of injuries.
But while some are getting pumped over Zion's reported progress, Pelicans coach Willie Green remains cautiously optimistic. In a report by ESPN, Green said Zion's return to the court won't happen soon.

“We're all pleased with the results, that he's progressing. But it's still a long road ahead of him. He's aware of it, but he's taking necessary steps to continue to improve. We'll see how it goes.”
Green was a 12-year NBA veteran, so he has seen enough injuries to know that rehabilitation is brutally slow. Clearly, he doesn't want to offer any false hopes regarding the 21-year-old Pelicans forward, who's also been linked to various trade rumors.
Zion was named to his first All-Star Game last season but his breakout campaign was cut short once again due to his foot injury. The former Duke standout has only played 85 games for the Pelicans. He's averaged 25.7 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game.
