The New York Knicks are planning for something big this summer. They traded their star, Kristaps Porzingis, to the Dallas Mavericks to free up cap space that now makes them capable of signing two superstars on max contracts. However, they still haven't traded disgruntled big man Enes Kanter despite all the rumors he's been involved in throughout the season.
Despite averaging 14.0 points and 10.5 rebounds for the season, the Knicks can't seem to utilize Kanter properly, and they can't seem to trade him either. This led to a significant decrease in playing time for the Turkish big man.
There are reports that Kanter and Knicks head coach David Fizdale don't see eye-to-eye, and this has led to the former spending a lot of time on the bench.
Amidst the Knicks disappointing season, fans still flock to MSG and watch their games, but recently, chants of ‘We want Kanter' have often been heard in the arena, indicating that no matter how bad this year has been for the team, Enes is still a fan favorite.
According to Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News, Kanter hears the chants, and he's starting to be embarrassed about it.
“I don’t know if the organization wants to hear (the chants) every game because it’s a little embarrassing,” said Kanter. “Because after this trade and everything the fans still want me to go out there and play. I don’t know if they want to hear that chant every game. I have no idea what they will do.”
The Knicks have a few days left to find a trade partner that is willing to take Kanter. If they fail to do that before Thursday, they might just buy out his contract.
Can't they just let him play for the fans?
