After countless efforts to find a third team to participate in a potential trade with the Houston Rockets, the New York Knicks could soon throw the towel and prepare to bring an estranged Carmelo Anthony into training camp, according to Steve Kyler of Basketball Insiders.
Looking at the trade market and the team's unwillingness to help the Rockets become a super team by adding Anthony to an already lethal backcourt of Chris Paul and James Harden, the chances of a trade are very, very slim.
The Rockets don't have very many pieces to offer and have been stubbornly packaging the whopping $60 million contract of forward Ryan Anderson, which the Knicks have been unwilling to take on.
Realistically speaking, the Knicks would be best served spending their energy in making possible amends with Anthony, who has proved hellbent on a trade to the Rockets since then-president Phil Jackson was fired.

“Sources near the situation continue to say bringing Anthony to training camp is a real possibility, but given how much of a media circus that will ultimately be, you have to wonder if the Knicks will ultimately blink and pull the trigger on a deal with Houston they currently do not want to do if only to close this chapter and move on.”
Anthony's teammates have vouched for his professionalism, saying that despite the tumultuous 2016-17 season and all the passive-aggressiveness he received from Jackson, he was never a problem with the coaching staff and was well-liked by his fellow teammates.
While Anthony could survive in a Jackson-less organization, it seems like the Knicks have worn out his patience and will now have to focus their efforts on rebuilding a relationship that has been ripped to shreds in the past few seasons.
