The New York Knicks appeared to have a logjam at point guard coming into this past season. Now they're trying to deal with the opposite problem with a need for their next floor general.

One name on New York's radar is a former All-Star, but probably not the ideal one Knicks fans would be clamoring for should he make the move to the Big Apple.

According to a report from Bleacher Report's Jake Fischer, D'Angelo Russell, a one-time All-Star with the Brooklyn Nets, is reportedly among the “lower-level” targets the Knicks have on their wish list.

As the Knicks work down the list of their point guard options, rival executives have pointed to Minnesota Timberwolves starter D'Angelo Russell as a potential lower-level trade target. New York's front office recently added former Minnesota president of basketball operations Gersson Rosas, who once chased Russell in free agency and later traded Andrew Wiggins to Golden State for the creative point guard.

The Knicks are said to have All-Star and New York native Donovan Mitchell much higher on their list of targets, but he's also inversely attainable given that the Utah Jazz would likely ask for a king's ransom – and that's if they even want to trade him.

More than likely, the Knicks do end up with a low-end star like D'Angelo Russell. Obviously, acquiring star talent would be welcomed in New York. But barring a big-name star like Donovan Mitchell putting on the blue and orange threads, balancing team chemistry and building a strong culture with the players that do arrive is arguably worth more to them right now.
