Adam Sandler's latest film entitled “Uncut Gems” is set for release in the United States in a couple of weeks' time. Created by famed brothers Josh and Benny Safdie, this highly-anticipated movie also features future NBA Hall of Famer Kevin Garnett, who according to the Safdie brothers themselves, almost did not make the cut.
In a lengthy interview for The Ringer, the siblings discuss how they almost cast somebody else in Garnett's current role in the film. As it turns out, Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant was in strong contention. So much so, that the Safides already made the necessary changes in the script to accommodate the five-time NBA champ, only to later find out that Bryant would eventually pull the plug on the potential role. The Safdie brothers start talking about Kobe at the 0:30 mark.
As they mentioned in the interview, Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid was also considered for the role. It was not meant to be, though, as the Sixers big man will still need to wait a bit more before making his Hollywood debut.
The Sefdie brothers then spend the rest of the interview proudly speaking about their unwavering fandom for the New York Knicks. As a matter of fact, they were not shy about talking about their utter hatred towards Garnett, who himself is a famed member of one of, if not the greatest rival of the Knicks, the Boston Celtics.
“Uncut Gems” is set to hit theaters nationwide in December 13… without Joel Embiid or Kobe Bryant.
