The Orlando Magic possessing the first overall selection in the 2022 NBA Draft gives them a lot of possibilities. With a trio of very high-level prospects to pick from, they seem to be zeroing in on Auburn's Jabari Smith Jr.
Smith's dynamic shooting abilities and defensive chops make him a very intriguing prospect. The 6-foot-10 forward averaged 16.9 points, 7.4 rebounds and 2.0 assists while shooting 42.9 percent from the field and 42.0 percent from behind the 3-point arc. The Magic are linked to Smith and are currently expected to draft him.
According to AP's Tim Reynolds, Smith said that he was nervous but that the workout was very memorable since it was his first-ever one with a pro team. He discussed why he would be a solid fit with the Magic.
“I think I can fit in it really well,” Smith said. “Seeing the guys and seeing the players, this is a young team, one of the youngest in the league. So, adding me would just add another young player who was hungry and got a lot left in the tank. So, I’ll add some energy and just another person wants to come in and work and get this organization where it needs to be.”
The Magic would have a solid palce for Smith in the starting lineup next to Cole Anthony, Wendell Carter Jr. and Franz Wagner. Orlando needs young talent badly. Smith's shooting and defense would greatly help them and give them a hopeful star to build around.
The star forward has another workout with the Oklahoma City Thunder, who have the second overall pick. Although there is still two weeks left beforte the 2022 NBA Draft, Jabari Smith JR. very likely may have started his slate of workouts with the team that will pick him.
