The NBA has gone into other spheres of entertainment in the past. NBA stars have made iconic movies, published music albums, and have done much more. Today's NBA athlete transcends the sport and goes into other parts of public life. Thus, it is not a surprise that they have also gone into wrestling.
The biggest wrestling entertainment company, WWE, has hosted many NBA players in the past. It has generally been accepted well, so an NBA player transitioning to the WWE would be a possibility in the future. The Philadelphia 76ers roster could have some contenders for this role, so here are two Sixers players who would make great WWE Superstars.
Sixers potential WWE Superstars
Literally speaking, everything about Joel Embiid screams WWE. The Sixers star is charismatic, hyper-entertaining, and an incredibly imposing figure. If he did not decide to pursue basketball, there is no doubt that he would have a path to the WWE without any problems. Embiid, with his immense personality, simply fits with the WWE and there are a few reasons why.
Firstly, it is the background of Joel Embiid. As the WWE has many American wrestlers and performers, it is the international talent that sometimes gathers all attention. Thus, with his Cameroonian background that he is very proud of, the Sixers center could have storylines galore written about him. He can have a whole character built around his African origins, and the WWE fans would love that. Kofi Kingston was a certified fan favorite acting out a Jamaican background, so with an accent and a generally charismatic personality, Embiid would have the whole WWE on absolute strings.
Speaking about his charismatic personality, Joel Embiid also has that going for him. While some would call it polarizing, since many Sixers' rivals' fans hate him, Embiid is generally very lovable. He was famous for indulging in many NBA activities not strictly relating to basketball, such as famously dancing with the Sixers cheerleaders in 2017. WWE fans like personality, generally speaking, and Embiid has truckloads. He also has the potential to go face or heel, which gives WWE writers even more potential for storylines that would be immensely popular.
Article Continues BelowThe single biggest factor for the Sixers star and his WWE potential is his mic work. Joel Embiid is an incredibly outspoken player who does not shy away from speaking. He also loves to troll, both his rival teams and stuff around the league generally. His most famous antic is waving goodbye openly to players ejected against the Sixers. This could translate to a career in the WWE, where Embiid would be great at riling up the crowd. That is a skill that goes down well in professional wrestling so it would not be that big of a longshot to say that Embiid would be great for the WWE.
The Sixers roster has many interesting individuals who could be here, at the place of Ben Simmons. Andre Drummond is quite the imposing figure, while the gritty underdog can be played by someone like Seth Curry. However, due to his antics this summer, Ben Simmons would make the perfect perennial heel. Simmons has other reasons why he could be a future WWE Superstar, so he really deserves to be here.
It is really his almost troll-like nature that gets him a spot. The Sixers forward has not had a generally well-liked personality in the league. He has been considered soft, and even some Sixers fans did not enjoy the way Ben Simmons acts and plays. That gives him an excellent setup to be a constant heel in the WWE. If he was a bit more outspoken, Simmons could follow Chris Jericho, an amazing performer who had brief moments and periods of being a hero but spent most of his career being a true villain.
Also, Ben Simmons is generally hated, which is a great thing for WWE success. His antics this summer, requesting a trade from the Sixers and not reporting to the team, earned him condemnation from the entire NBA fanbase, not only Sixers fans. If that was a storyline in the WWE, rather than being a real occurrence in the NBA, Simmons would have been the story of the wrestling world. It is really a shame for his future NBA career, but it could open new doors for him after basketball.
As said above, the Sixers have lots of players that would fit right into their roles and characters in the NBA. Some like Drummond deserve honorable mentions, but the best two, without doubt, would be Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid.
