Sixers head coach Brett Brown knows that Joel Embiid is an extremely important member of his team. In fact, Brown called the Cameroonian big man “Philly's crown jewel.”

Crown jewel or not, Embiid and the Sixers will be looking to continue with the success they had last season. Philly finished the 2018-19 campaign with a 51-31 overall record, which earned the team a No. 3 seed in the Eastern Conference. However, the Sixers saw their season come to an end in the second round, when they were defeated by the Toronto Raptors, 4-3.

Embiid put up monster numbers last season. In his 64 regular-season appearances with the Sixers (all starts), the 25-year-old racked up averages of 27.5 points on 48.4 percent shooting from the field (30.0 percent from beyond the arc), 13.6 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.9 blocks in 33.7 minutes per outing.

As part of a recent appearance, Embiid revealed that he has lost 25 pounds this offseason:

“This summer I lost about 25 pounds,” said Embiid as he struggled to deal with the heat from the Carolina Reaper-laced chip by gulping down glasses of milk. “I’m about to put it back on with this milk.”

Whether or not Embiid's weight loss will make a difference for the longevity of his career remains to be seen, but it certainly couldn't hurt.
