Philadelphia Sixers head coach Brett Brown has preached a team-first mentality with his young team, saying that Joel Embiid can further help the team by becoming a ‘Most Valuable Person.' Brown sees his star center as the team's glue guy, especially during the crucial stretches of their season.

Philly News' Keith Pompey wrote how Brown envisions Embiid to be a different kind of ‘MVP.'

Sixers’ Brett Brown wants Joel Embiid to be a different MVP.

“Joel's discussion for wanting to be MVP, that's Most Valuable Person,” the Sixers coach said Friday. “He is our leader. That's what interests me the most.”

Embiid finished 12th in MVP voting last year, an outstanding accomplishment for a young sophomore. His skills include an interesting and rare combination of a traditional and a modern big man. While his post moves are already well-polished, he can also shoot from the outside and is silky smooth with his penetrations.

With the ‘process' coming full circle, the Sixers have surrounded Embiid with a slew of young stars like Ben Simmons, Dario Saric and Markelle Fultz. There's plenty of buzz circulating Philly basketball nowadays, thanks to Embiid's presence on both ends of the floor.

Embiid has also brushed off worries regarding his injury that sidelined him during his first season in the NBA. Brown has lifted the restrictions in Embiid's minutes last season.

The young Cameroonian big man indeed has the potential to be the Sixers' leader. He packs toughness and grit, and has been the team's undisputed defensive anchor.
