In the Philadelphia 76ers' exhilarating 114-105 victory over the Chicago Bulls, Sixers head coach Doc Rivers etched his name into the NBA history books. He became the 10th coach in league history to earn 1,000 career wins, as well as just the second Black coach to achieve the feat.

Doc Rivers joins Lenny Wilkens as the second Black coach in NBA history to reach 1,000 career wins. And he did it in his hometown of Chicago.

Rivers has been a head coach for 23 seasons and four teams. He began his career coaching the Orlando Magic, won the 2008 league championship and 2010 Eastern Conference title with the Boston Celtics, coached the Lob City-era Los Angeles Clippers and is now in his second year with the Sixers. Rivers' 98 playoff wins rank sixth all-time and he has coached the All-Star game three times.
Rivers won the Coach of the Year award in the 1999-00 season, his first-ever season as a head coach, and has 12 conference Coach of the Month awards (seven for the east and five for the west) to his name, most recently winning in January of last season. As a player, Rivers earned one All-Star game nomination and played for four teams over 13 seasons.
With their win tonight, the Sixers sit atop the Eastern Conference with a record of 8-2 despite missing several of their key players. Their next game is on Monday at home against the New York Knicks.
