Joel Embiid has a soft side.

The Philadelphia 76ers star center recently visited rapper Meek Mill in jail, in an effort to offer moral and emotional support, per Jessica Camerato of NBC Sports Philadelphia.

“I just wanted to go out there, support him, pretty good friend of mine,” Embiid said. “So I just wanted to go out there, show him some support and let him know that we’re behind him. There was a little bit of injustice there so I just wanted to go out there with whoever I was to show him the support.”

Mill was recently sentenced to 2-4 years in jail as a result of a parole violation, per Camerato. Mill is a native of Philadelphia, which makes his situation even more personal to Emiid and the rest of the 76ers.

Several members of the team were quite upset when they heard about the jail sentence, and wore sweatshirts that read “Stand with Meek Mill.”

Embiid also spoke about the experience of visiting a jail, per Camerato.

“First of all, it was scary,” Embiid said. “I’m never going to jail. I got into that place and I was pretty scared.

While there may be no situation in which Embiid would land in jail, it's great to see that he supports Mill, a friend of his, in his time of dire need.
