More and more details are slowly being revealed about the whole Eric Bledsoe situation in the wake of his recent trade demand from the Phoenix Suns. One such detail Suns general manager Ryan McDonough shared was that Bledsoe’s camp turned hostile when extension talks with the Suns during the offseason didn’t go as they had hoped.

“Eric (was) eligible for a renegotiation and extension of his contract,” McDonough said, according to Kevin Zimmerman of Arizona Sports. “… With two years left on his contract, we did not feel like that was something that made sense for the team. We told Eric and his representatives that was something that we were potentially open to discussing next summer with one year left on his deal. I guess they didn't like that answer and took kind of a hostile approach and kind of shut down and distanced themselves from the team. I think that's where the approach came from.”

Eric Bledsoe is represented by Klutch Sports and Rich Paul, who’s famously known as LeBron James’ long-time friend and business associate. Paul is earning a reputation around the league as a tough negotiator. He advised two of his clients, the Cleveland Cavaliers’ Tristan Thompson and J.R. Smith, to hold out during their contract talks. The two eventually got paid, though.

The Suns seem justified in their decision to hold off on a Bledsoe extension. They are a rebuilding team and it didn’t make much sense for them to commit long-term to a 27-year-old Bledsoe, who doesn’t necessarily fit their young core’s timeline.

Eric Bledsoe is as good as gone from the Suns, though, and he and Paul will be some other team’s problem to deal with in the near future.
