Anfernee Simons is the light at the end of the tunnel for the Portland Trail Blazers. Amid an injury-riddled season and constant roster churn, the young point guard is showing flashes of brilliance on a consistent basis. His 17.1 points, 3.9 assists and 3.1 triples per game are all career-highs by a wide margin.
According to Sports Illustrated's Ben Pickman, CJ McCollum left signed jerseys for his Blazers teammates after being traded to the New Orleans Pelicans. For Simons, who he will continue to root for as he transitions to a new team, he wrote to “keep going, to take in the moment and to not shy away from who he is”. The youngster took that message to heart and embraced his inner Damian Lillard when the subject of free agency was mentioned.

Simons will be a restricted free agent this offseason, meaning that Portland has the control over whether he stays or goes. There's no reason for them to split up. Portland needs talent and Simons has blossomed under head coach Chauncey Billups and a front office that has put immense faith in him moving forward.
At some point, Lillard will leave Portland. He could leave as soon as this offseason, though the Blazers may look to retool around him again. Simons, meanwhile, will embrace the grind and look to continue his impressive development.
