CJ McCollum is a key part of one of the best backcourts in the league. McCollum and Damian Lillard are dynamic scoring guards who can terrorize opposing defenses on any given night. But the pair in Portland has yet to have any postseason success. Bringing the Portland Trail Blazers to new heights in the postseason is an obvious goal for McCollum and his team.

But as a new season begins, McCollum has some smaller goals he's focusing on to improve his all-around game. Jason Quick of The Athletic writes:

Now, a season awaits. McCollum says he enters with some goals: becoming a better passer and dribbling less chief among them.

McCollum is a legitimate offensive talent. He's a dead-eye 3-point shooter — he shoots 41 percent from behind the arc for his career. The last three seasons, McCollum has averaged 20-plus points per game. Unfortunately, his assists per game have declined in each season.

But McCollum — and everyone in Portland — must improve their game if they want to escape the first round of the playoffs. The Blazers were poised to do so last season when they secured the third seed in the Western Conference. But the team was forced to do some serious soul searching following a first-round sweep at the hands of Anthony Davis and the New Orleans Pelicans.

The West is even deeper this season, and the Blazers are counting on McCollum to help them navigate their unforgiving schedule. Portland is lucky because it sounds like CJ is locked and loaded as the season approaches.
