In the inaugural 2018 NBA All-Star Game draft, LeBron James, this year's leading vote-getter, chose Kevin Durant with the first pick. After Stephen Curry was unable to choose his teammate, he chose Giannis Antetokounmpo with the second pick according to Ros Gold-Onwude of NBA on TNT.

After the Golden State Warriors' 126-113 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves, Durant discussed finally being the first pick in the draft. As a result, the Portland Trail Blazers owned up to not picking him 11 years ago on Twitter:

At the 2007 NBA Draft, it is well-documented what happened. With the first pick, the Blazers passed on Durant to select Greg Oden. While Oden was a great prospect, his career was unfortunately cut short due to injuries. In just 105 career games (three seasons) with the Blazers and Miami Heat, he averaged 8.0 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks in 19.3 minutes.

As Durant has established himself as a future Hall of Famer, one cannot help but wonder where Oden would be at this stage of his career if he stayed relatively healthy. While the 30-year-old has attempted to continue his basketball career in the league and overseas, he acknowledged that it was over in 2016.

While most players struggle with what to do after their basketball careers are over, Oden has taken positive steps. In 2016, he was hired by Ohio State to be the student manager as he works on earning his college degree.
