The Sacramento Kings continued their solid start to the season on Tuesday night against the Phoenix Suns, outscoring their opponent 36-9 in the first quarter. It turned out to be a quarter for the record books, as it was the best opening quarter in Sacramento's franchise history.

The Kings wasted no time in jumping out to a large lead against the worst team in the Western Conference. Guards Buddy Hield and Bogdan Bogdanovic scored eight points and seven points respectively to lead their team to what would become an insurmountable lead.

Through the first quarter of the season, the Kings have been a pleasant surprise. Originally chosen by most pundits to be the second or third worst team in the conference, the team jumped out to a 12-11 start after beating the Suns.

Many of the Kings players have shown significant growth this season. De'Aaron Fox, in particular, has stepped his game up to a new level. The fifth overall pick in the 2017 draft has improved in every statistical category so far, improving his numbers to 17.3 points, 7.5 assists, four rebounds, and 1.4 steals per game on 48 percent shooting.

For the first time in years, the team looks like it has a chance to be competitive sooner rather than later. It might be a stretch for them to make the playoffs this season, but there is now a glimmer of hope for Kings fans. With additional growth from their young players, smart draft picks, and some solid free-agent signings, the Kings could be a force in the Western Conference in a few short years.
