The Sacramento Kings and rookie Tyrese Haliburton received some good news couched with bad news on Tuesday.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Haliburton suffered no ligament damage to his left knee following a scary injury in the Kings’ Sunday victory against the Dallas Mavericks.

Despite that, the Kings are being extremely careful with the talented rookie by holding him out for the remainder of the season. Surgery will not be required, and he is expected to make a full recovery.

Tyrese Haliburton inexplicably fell in the draft all the way to No. 12 overall, where the Kings happily snapped him up. In the pre-draft process, Haliburton was widely pegged in the top 10, very rarely falling past No. 6 overall.

However, reporting on draft night was that Haliburton was actually telling teams above the Kings not to draft him, as he would refuse to play there and was focused on signing in Sacramento.

It seems that Haliburton’s belief paid off, as he has been among the best rookies in the league this season along with LaMelo Ball of the Charlotte Hornets, Anthony Edwards of the Minnesota Timberwolves, Saddiq Bey of the Detroit Pistons and Desmond Bane of the Memphis Grizzlies.

Before sustaining the injury, Haliburton was averaging 13.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 1.3 steals while shooting 47.2 percent from the field and 40.9 percent from 3-point range in 58 games.

The former Iowa State Cyclone had also started the past five games for the Kings with De’Aaron Fox out and was averaging 17.0 points and 8.2 assists in that time frame.

Let’s wish for a speedy recovery for the 21-year-old rising Kings star.
