The Sacramento Kings have been set to enter the offseason with max cap space, but not many people expected them to make a big splash in free agency. Well, those who didn't believe may be in for a big surprise.
According to Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated, the Kings are expected to make a big offer to big man Al Horford when free agency kicks off on Sunday.
Sacramento is one of several teams that have expressed interest in Horford, with the New Orleans Pelicans representing another wild card contender for the veteran's services.
Horford declined his player option with the Boston Celtics for next season, but the general consensus all along was that Horford would end up re-signing with the Celtics. However, the gap between Horford and Boston was seen as too large to overcome, particularly with Horford being rumored to potentially have $100-plus million offers awaiting him this summer.

The five-time All-Star is coming off of a 2018-19 campaign in which he played 68 games and averaged 13.6 points, 6.7 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 1.3 blocks over 29 minutes per game while shooting 53.5 percent from the floor, 36 percent from three-point range and 82.1 percent from the free-throw line.
Meanwhile, the Kings won 39 games this past season and were surprisingly in playoff contention for much of the year. With a very nice young core, Sacramento might feel it is only a piece away from making the postseason.
