DeMarcus Cousins may be leading the NBA with the most technical fouls so far this season, but he is no longer alone on top of the list. After having two techs rescinded by the league, he is now tied with Washington Wizards guard John Wall with eight.
The two rescinded from the Sacramento Kings center were one slapped on him November 27 against the Brooklyn Nets and the against the Los Angeles Lakers on December 12. Both were cancelled following an appeal and review by the basketball operations group.
Cousins revealed that he was already made aware of the decision and that his points were heard by Kiki VanDeWegh and the operations team.
“I was already aware of it, I talked to Kiki (VanDeWeghe, league vice president of basketball operations) about it and he agreed with my points, and I think he made the right decision.”
The development came after he was hit with two technical fouls on Tuesday night during a game against the Portland Trail Blazers, before the referees cancelled the second tech and Cousins was asked to return to the court.
Kings' head coach Dave Joerger talked about the effort his All-Star center has been giving to shy away from his usual court antics during games that often results to him receiving technical fouls.
“He’s been working hard at it, and there’s been a lot of times where we’ll talk to the referee and we’ll say that didn’t seem like a whole lot, seemed like two guys got tangled up and a lot of them are double techs where two guys get tangled up and they look at it again and it wasn’t a big deal. That’s always good for us.”
The Sacramento faithful are hoping that Cousins will start to show more maturity and that he will not get more technical fouls soon as eight more will result to an automatic suspension from the league.
